Hi Everyone
Increasingly more sections of industry and commerce are embracing PTLLS as a minimum standard for their trainers. Examples of this are the whole of the security industry (SIA) and plant and machinery instructors (CPCS) and lots of trade associations are getting on board as well. In my world the emerging strategy of implementation for these new standards is both top down and bottom up, here's how I see it. Further Education and the military were easy targets as they can be told what to do, and they were, hence top down. If you look at further easy targets for this approach you may think of the public sector, awarding bodies and anyone else connected to government funding or control.
The bottom up approach I see as this. Apart from organisations who have just bought in to the new framework, employers are being encouraged to become a new thing called "Employer Bodies" This is how an employer can get their in-house training nationally accredited, and therefore of value to their employers lifelong learning. There are over a thousand employers who have signed up for this including McDonalds and M+S, hence all the micky taking in the press a while back about being able to get an qualification in flipping burgers.
The really weird effect this is having for me is that I am increasingly finding myself delivering PTLLS to excellent and highly skilled trainers from all sorts of sectors, who have in-house train the trainer qualifications which are fast becoming not recognised in the wider world. The really nice thing is that these types of candidate really enjoy the experience because they take away "Why" it works, which means they can do things on purpose for their learners.
The December open course at Rodbaston is full, the next one is 1-5th March 2010 and that is already filling up. if you are thinking of booking an open course next spring do it now, there are not many slots available.
Take care
Mike
