Sharp Sticks and Needles Recovery and Disposal
About the Qualification
This half day awareness package will prepare ground care staff, supervisors and other involved with working in areas where there is a risk of exposure to discarded needles, sharps and other bio-hazards. It can be delivered twice in a day to maximise cost effectiveness
Aim
To provide knowledge of the risks posed by blood borne diseases and skills to safely recover and dispose of bio-hazard items
Objectives
- Understand the associated legal and safety knowledge
- Be aware of the personal risks posed by blood borne viruses and transfer methods
- To identify the Risk Assessment and Emergency Procedures on a worksite
- Select the equipment required for the safe disposal of needles
- Demonstrate the correct techniques for handling discarded needles
- Follow a procedure for the safe disposal of discarded materials
Candidates need to be 16 years old minimum.
